To those who are Christian, but support homosexuality, this message is specifically for you. Be very careful to consider where your heart is by the end of this message. Think nothing of me or anyone else. This is you and God.
Dearest unknown friend,
Hello there, I know this will be abrupt, but I wanted to say something. I have prayed that my heart is right with God and that only what he wants to say will be said and not anything regarding my desires.
I know that you claim to be a Christian, yet you support same sex marriage and homosexuality. I am a Christian as well and if you believe in Jesus Christ then I have to say something. The Bible says in both the Old and New Testaments that homosexuality is against God. It troubles me to see that you support this because we can’t pick and choose the things we like out of the Bible and discard the rest.
The Bible talks about the world getting worse and sin becoming more prevalent and people doing whatever makes them feel good and whatever their flesh desires:
“They said to you, ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.” Jude 1:18-19
Think of it in this context. What if I told you I was a Christian, but that lying was totally okay? Well, the Bible says that lying is a sin. So why would I choose to ignore what the Bible has said on this matter and pay mind to the other commands of God?
If you were not a Christian I wouldn’t feel obligated to say anything and this is because of Romans 8. This whole section talks about sin and living for God.
“If people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. When people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, they are against God, because they refuse to obey God’s law and really are not even able to obey God’s law. Those people who are ruled by their sinful selves cannot please God.” Romans 8:6-8
These are some verses that reject homosexuality.
Directed toward men. “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.’” Leviticus 18:22
“‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable.’” Leviticus 20:13
“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” Romans 1:24-32
“Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
“We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine.” 1 Timothy 1:8-10
“And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.” Jude 1:6-7
That verse from Jude needs this context: anyone who has sinned against God, in whatever way they have sinned, are deserving of Hell. Homosexuality is not unique. It is dishonestly preached by some, Christians included, that homosexuality lands you right in Hell as if it is a special sin. Don’t be fooled, God measures no sin to be worse than another. I’ve told you that before.
“Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Galatians 3:10, with Deuteronomy 27:26 cited.
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” James 2:10
As soon as you sin you have marked yourself for death and punishment. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve sinned or in what way. Darkness is darkness. It makes no difference. God will be the judge of people, and you will have to answer for your life on this earth.
Dear friend, I know that you’re probably going to get pretty upset about this message, but homosexuality is clearly defined as a sin. Some may dispute the translation of words, but there is no mistaking the true meaning as the same ideas are repeated in many verses, as you’ve seen above.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
So you’re a new creation. Because of Jesus your sins will not be counted against you, but we’re in a pickle if you are declaring something is not sinful even though God has said that it is. Humans like to be accepted, and homosexuality is widely embraced and supported by many people. If you reject homosexuality, well, a lot of people are automatically going to dislike you. That’s not very comfortable. It’s much easier to blend in and agree then be ridiculed for opposing homosexuality.
And once again we have hit a stumbling block.
2 Corinthians 6:3-18 goes on to talk about how Christians will suffer to bear Jesus’s name. The world is supposed to hate us. God has separated his children from those of the world. You cannot go on living as you did before you knew Jesus; doing whatever your sinful flesh desired. You and I will always sin, but we must change our lives for God and repent. “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” 1 John 2:15
“For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him.” Philippians 1:29
Christians, you and I, must suffer for believing in Jesus. That’s always how it will be: standing up for what is right is hated by the world. When you defend God, the one who is in the world, Satan, retaliates. Since Christ’s gift is the best thing you can ever have in your life, then that means you must be like him. You must bear his name and you will suffer because the world hates Jesus.
We are conflicted…it is so much easier to belong to the world. But the grains of eternity are falling and hitting our heads. Where will you be after you’ve died? Because God has wrath like you wouldn’t believe. If the Bible could talk, all you’d hear are screams in some books of scripture. It’s better to suffer for a finite amount of time on Earth, living a life that is as righteous and good as you can, rather than wasting your time on pleasures and being cut down in your wickedness.
Well, you may argue, dear friend, that the Bible is outdated! Homosexuality was a sin to that culture of people thousands of years ago. They didn’t know any better. They were so foolish and primitive. In our present generation, people are more open-minded and we understand that homosexuality is acceptable.
I can’t let you have that argument either. It can seem like the Bible is outdated, but it is not. It is the Living Word and God does not change his mind on the things he says nor does his Word expire.
“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19
“For, ‘All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.” 1 Peter 1:24-25
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
It is hard because homosexuality is widely accepted by many people. It’s difficult because we want to be accepted by other people instead of being rejected. Homosexuality is a temptation that some people have a weakness for. They want the world to accept their weakness and tell them that they can do what they want. Whatever feels good, that’s what people want. If your heart is full of lust, just give in. Give in.
Here’s that same argument, but homosexuality is exchanged for a different sin.
Tell the murderer that he can continue to kill people because he has a weakness for it and it makes him feel good. Tell the thief that he can continue to steal because he has a weakness for it and it makes him feel good. Tell the liar that he can continue to lie because he has a weakness for it and it makes him feel good. Tell the rapist, tell the gossiper, tell the backstabber, tell the curser, tell the blasphemer, tell the greedy, tell the proud…it’s all the same argument. A merry-go-round of suffering and temporary pleasure. You drink from any of these cups, any of them, and your thirst only becomes worse than it was before. It is never quenched. You can never get enough.
If we pick and choose the things we like out of the Bible we are no longer living for God. If you are a Christian and you believe in Jesus Christ, you have to know that homosexuality is a sin in the Bible and it is not a gene that some people inherit. It is a sin like all others. Sin is a choice, and everyone, Christians included, sin until the day we die. We must strive not to give into our sinful selves and we must ask God for forgiveness and strength against temptation.
God loves all people. He does not hate anyone. Hate is not a characteristic of God, but God does discipline people and he does not want us to do the things that are wrong for us to do. You cannot accept homosexuality and also accept Christ. You cannot have both. No one can accept sin as permissible, as a good thing, and be in Christ.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
I pray that God will open your heart to this message because it is not meant to make you angry and it is not meant to be hateful and it is not meant to be an ancient philosophy that is outdated and it is not meant to be provocation to an argument. It is the Word of God, the one you claim to know, and as a fellow Christian I had to come forward.
If the world hates you for rejecting homosexuality this does not matter. You need God’s approval, not the approval of men. The world is full of darkness and you do not want to seek the wisdom of the world.
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness.’” 1 Corinthians 3:19, with Job 5:13 cited.
Please think hard about this because God has moved me to speak.
Do not think that I am clean of this sin. I have lusted for women before and have been tempted to engage in a lesbian relationship with a friend of mine. I am not some faraway voice in this situation so don’t you dare try to shove that in my face. Even now, when I spend time with this female friend of mine, the temptation comes up from the depths of my wretched heart and a tiny voice encourages me to sin. God, let it never happen.
Whatever you decide to do, or believe, is your choice, but if you want to live for God you have to give up everything you have to follow Christ.
Jesus said, “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.” Luke 14:33
This is the deepest commitment you can make. Are you really committed to Jesus? Because if you say you are, but truly are not, God is not fooled. He knows your heart.
Be well, my unknown friend.
